About

Phinley and Toby
A Day in the Life of a Tacticool Dog is dedicated to our two favorite pooches, Phinley and Toby.  They are the reason the Tacticool Dog Sling idea was born.

Nick and Amanda
My name is Amanda and his name is Nick.  We are both "twenty-somethings" trying to live life to the fullest.  Nick grew up with a love for the outdoors.  He hiked, biked, fished and camped as much as he could.  Then I came along.  As I fell in love with Nick and the outdoors, his hobbies quickly became our hobbies.

Camping at Deam Wilderness - Fall 2009
Almost three years later, we've snowboarded in Montana, visited the beaches of Texas and found our favorite local hiking and biking spots.  We don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Baby Toby
Toby was adopted from the local shelter in the spring of 2009.  Nick was told that he was a lab mix pup and his dreams of beautiful summers days playing fetch with Toby were quickly becoming reality.  About a month after bringing him home, Nick realized something was terribly wrong with Toby's vision.  After a few visits to the vet, Nick found out that Toby had severe vision loss and would never regain his sight.  Despite Toby's poor vision, Nick continued to treat Toby as if nothing was wrong.  Since then, Toby has grown into a sweet and confident boy.

Baby Phinley
In the fall of 2010, we decided that Toby needed a kind and loving companion with strong eye sight to guide him as his vision steadily became worse.  We looked for months at different breeds and breeders and finally settled on a Vizsla.  After seven months of waiting, we brought home our baby Phinley in March 2011.  Phinley is truly a "velcro" dog and she and Toby have become the best of friends.

Tacticool Dog Sling Family
Even with Toby's poor vision, he always came along on all our outdoor adventures.  Neighborhood walks, camping trips, hikes in the woods, and fishing trips were some of our favorite things to do as a family.  When Phinley came home, our outdoor activities became more frequent.  Toby had been trained with a solid, high quality leather leash and so was Phinley.  While out on a summer hike at Griffy Lake, we realized we had a need for a leash that would free up our hands, but still keep our dogs close and under control.  We turned to the internet to find what we had envisioned on our hike, but the few hands free leashes we found always seemed to come up short.  Brainstorming and design started almost immediately and after a few weeks, our first concept leash was complete.  Nick used random parts and supplies we had laying around the house and the Tacticool Dog Sling (TDS) MK1 was born.
